Egypt
Increased population, Increase feed demand
Leads to :
- Increase waste
- Increase greenhouse emission
- Deteriorate Ecosystem
More than 80% of organic waste dumped in Egypt

GLOBAL PATTERNS IN FOOD SUPPLY AND DEMAND
The growth in the world’s population is putting strain on traditional food resources, animal protein in particular.
World meat and fish production is projected to double by 2050 and all those animals need to be fed.
The traditional sources of protein for animal’s feeds are wild-caught fishmeal and soy meal, the increasing production of which will further contribute to overfishing and deforestation.
- According to the UN the world’s population currently grows by 78 million people per year. In the year 2050 approximately 10 billion people will inhabit this world
- The extent of the increased meat demand estimates range from 70 % to 140 %
SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION

Circular Economy Concepts
Feeding waste to BSF would not only be mimicking nature, but more than that it could have a plus of actually incorporating nature into industrial processes, and thus getting closer to the natural model. Utilizing the investigated protein and oil potential of BSF for stock feed, biodiesel and other by-products, could supply additional resources that otherwise would have been left unutilized and at the same time minimize the pressure on natural systems for more and fresh raw materials.

Insects can serve as missing /join link between the rising demand of protein, return ecosystems equilibrium, as they close the loop and recycle the nutrients that would be used inferiorly otherwise/ insufficiently . Drawing the way to sustainability in life aspects One solution to this problem is to supplement fishmeal and soymeal in animal feeds with insect protein. Insects grow quickly, requiring minimal land and water, while recycling organic waste streams. A new industry – “”insects for feed”” is growing at an unprecedented rate to provide animal feed manufacturers with sustainable insect protein. The majority of insect farmers in this industry are using a species of fly called _Hermetia Illucens_ or the Black Soldier Fly (BSF).

Focus on organic wastes as rearing substrates for fly larvae enabled us to evaluate the possibility of deriving safe, high quality and sustainable feed protein whilst at the same time reducing volumes of low value wastes. Furthermore they can utilize a wide range of waste substrates offering potential for low economic and environmental costs.

BSF NOT Pest Not transmit disease Efficiently reduce Salmonella (harmful bacteria) in its substrate Food and Drug Administration (FDA) & Association of American Feed Control Officers (AAFCO) would regulate BSFL production, packaging, labeling, distribution, sale, import, and export for direct human and animal consumption respectively. In August 2016, AAFCO approved the dried larvae of Hermetia illucens “that has been raised on a feedstock composted exclusively of feed grade materials (and which) must contain not less than 34% crude protein and 32% fat on an as-fed basis” for use in feeding salmonid fishes .
MERITS
We successfully developed a unique Technique for the production of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, as a protein source for animals, birds and fish. On Dec 2016, we made a pilot scale of BSF production
